This was a great design to work on, as the clients not only wanted to reflect the classic contemporary interior of their home, but also use plants and tiling to reflect their personality and culture.
We chose two tile patterns – an ornate detailed tile for the porch and the connecting ‘bridge’ each side of the beds, and a more subtle tile for the path and main storage area.
By using two different patterns, the tiles work as a great divider within the garden, creating interest and different areas within the space.
The impact that subtle lighting can have in a front garden is shown in the image above. The shadows cast on the tiling and the illumination of the plants and the half standard topiary is impactful and also enhances the façade of the property.
As with so many gardens, secure bike storage was a top priority. The unit we chose easily stores 3 or 4 bikes, and was positioned so that it is easily accessible for all the family.
The planting of the beds with successional and evergreen planting, together with the addition of an evergreen hedge to the left hand boundary ensures that the garden has true year-round interest.
