It’s not that often that we put a brand new, just completed project on the website this soon after its completion, but when you look at the ‘before’ picture below, we thought that the solutions to the challenges we faced would be of real interest.
The enormous Leylandii hedge that ran along the rear boundary not only blocked out the light, but also came out 2 meters into the garden. The hedge was also over 10 meters tall and many of its roots protruded above ground for 3 meters. Even if our clients had wanted to keep the hedge, this would have made any landscaping impossible.
The hedge was originally planted to disguise the roof of a large commercial unit that runs along the entire rear boundary.
As you can see, once the site was cleared, there was so much more space, but the view to the rear left a lot to be desired!
Our clients love being outdoors and wanted to use the garden for fitness training on a daily basis. They also wanted to assimilate their existing hot tub into the design, which is used by all the family throughout the year. Other requests included a heated under cover seating and BBQ area, real lawns (no more plastic!) and beautifully planted beds full of foliage and flower.
So, the view of the unsightly garage roof was replaced with this new contemporary design….
In order to disguise the neighbouring roof, we created a large, raised bed that runs the width of the wall with evergreen pleached trees planted against contemporary batten fencing. This means that we could disguise the garage roof right up to its gable when viewed from ground level.
The bespoke 8 metre-pergola has an adjustable louvered roof that can allow light in, as well as keeping the rain out, which makes the space perfect for relaxing and entertaining throughout the year.
